The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) today will appoint Dale Austin Jenkins to interim chief operating officer to replace Inez Evans Benson, who will retire as COO on Aug. 17.
Jenkins will oversee the operations division while VTA begins recruiting a permanent appointment, according to a VTA meeting agenda document.
Jenkins has 40 years of experience in public transportation and currently serves as the chief executive officer of Jenkins Rail Transportation Solutions LLC, a rail operation consultation company.
His previous roles include assistant general manager of rail operations with the Regional Transportation District of Denver; director of operations for the Seattle Monorail project; and VTA’s general superintendent responsible for light-rail operations.
Jenkins career with VTA spanned 30 years, beginning as an operator and included progressively responsible positions in the operations division before his retirement, according to the document.
