The San Francisco Business Times last week named San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Jim Hartnett as one of San Francisco's most admired CEOs.

Hartnett was among 11 CEOs recognized for their demonstrated track record of exceptional leadership, business performance and philanthropic contributions. The honors were bestowed as part of the newspaper's 12th annual CEO recognition program, SamTrans officials said in a press release.

Hartnett oversees the management and operation of both the Caltrain commuter-rail service and the SamTrans fixed route bus and paratransit services. He also administers $180 million per year in sales taxes for multimodal transportation improvements in San Mateo County.

Hartnett has been SamTrans' CEO since 2015. His leadership has helped secure over $2 billion to prepare the Caltrain corridor for expanded service and the operation of new electric trains; create the Caltrain Business Plan; and foster a private sector partnership with Cross Bay Transit Partners to explore creating a rail connection along the Dumbarton Rail Corridor.
