The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board last week approved a new slate of officers for 2021.
VRE elected Elizabeth Bennett-Parker as chair and Jeannine Lawson as vice chair of the 15-member board.
Bennett-Parker is the vice mayor of Alexandria, Virginia, and has served as vice chair for the past year. She represents the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.
Lawson, a Prince William County supervisor, previously served as secretary. She represents the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission.
VRE's board also elected Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw as secretary, and Manassas Park Vice Mayor Preston Banks as treasurer.
The new officers will be installed Jan. 15, 2021.
Meanwhile, the commuter railroad received the Virginia Transit Association's 2020 Exceptional Safety Award, VRE officials said in a press release.
"From positive train control implementation to first-responder training to our COVID-19 response, we use all of the tools at our disposal to ensure the safety of passengers, train crews, maintenance workers, contractors, staff and the general public," said VRE Chief Executive Officer Rich Dalton.
