The Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s board, Metrolink’s governing body, last week elected Ara Najarian as chair, Larry McCallon as first vice chair and Doug Chaffee as second vice chair.

A Glendale City Council member, Najarian will represent the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority on the board. He will succeed outgoing Chair Brian Humphrey on Jan. 1, 2021.

“During Brian’s tenure, Metrolink saw the highest ridership levels in its history, as well as one of the most significant threats the transportation industry has seen in a generation: COVID-19. We thank him for helping secure Metrolink as an exemplary safety leader and essential service to the region during very uncertain times,” Najarian said in a press release.

Najarian previously served as vice chair for two years. He was elected to the Glendale City Council in 2005 and served as Glendale’s mayor for four terms. He first served as a member of Metrolink’s board between 2007 and 2012 and was reappointed in 2013.

McCallon is mayor pro tem of Highland, California, and will represent the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, while Chaffee, Orange County supervisor, will represent the Orange County Transportation Authority.

All three officers will serve one-year terms, but may serve a two-year term if reelected in 2021.
