The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans (NOLA) last week announced the election of Charles Ponstein as chairman.
Appointed to the board in 2018, Ponstein succeeds William Langenstein, whose term as chair expired this month. Langenstein will remain on the board until February 2023.
Ponstein has a legacy of leadership and public service, Port NOLA officials said in a press release. He owns and manages multiple commercial buildings and served in multiple roles for his hometown of St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana.
Port commissioners also serve on the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) Railroad Commission because of the two organizations' alignment in 2018. The Board of Commissioners have elected Jack Jensen Jr. as vice chairman and Joseph Toomy as secretary-treasurer. Toomy will serve on the NOPB Railroad Commission as vice chairman and Langenstein as secretary-treasurer.
