The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) yesterday announced the winners of its three industry awards, which will be presented Sept. 13 at the association's Intermodal EXPO in Long Beach, California.

IANA will present its Silver Kingpin Award to Ted Prince, chief strategy officer of Tiger Cool Express; Chairman's Award to Jim Newsome, executive adviser to the South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA); and Intermodal Achievement Award to U.S. Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.).

Prince will receive the Silver Kingpin Award for his career-long contributions to intermodalism, IANA officials said in a press release. He is IANA's former chairman and a 40-year intermodal transportation veteran.

Newsome will be recognized with the Chairman's Award for his dedication to the association and his passion for educating the next generation of intermodal leaders, IANA officials said. A former IANA board member, Newsome recently retired as CEO of the SCPA.

Lowenthal will be honored with the Intermodal Achievement Award as a "testament for his consistent support for the freight supply chain" during his public-service career, IANA officials said. The congressman has authored, introduced or co-sponsored several major pieces of legislation related to the freight industry, and played a guiding role in the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021.

Previous Silver Kingpin Award winners include Marino Group President and Chief Executive Officer Vincent Marino; retired BNSF Railway Co. executive Steve Branscum; American Trucking Associations Chairman David Manning; former Union Pacific Railroad VP of Intermodal Operations Barry Michaels; former Norfolk Southern Railway VP of Intermodal Robert Huffman; former CSX EVP and Chief Commercial Officer Clarence Gooden; former Florida East Coast Railway President and CEO James Hertwig; longtime rail veteran and intermodal industry contributor Jeff Brashares; and Frank Richter, Progressive Railroading's co-founder who died in 2013.
