P&L Transportation promotes Greene to chair, president and CEO

P&L Transportation Inc. yesterday announced management changes, including the naming of Tom Greene as the company’s chairman, president and CEO.

Prior to his appointment, Greene was the company’s executive vice president–chief operating officer and chief financial officer. He joined the Paducah & Louisville Railway in 1995 as VP and CFO. Prior to joining the P&L Railway, Green held numerous positions with CSX and predecessor companies. He began his railroad career in 1977 while attending college, sailing Lake Michigan on Chessie System car ferries serving ports in Michigan and Wisconsin.

In his new role, Greene succeeds Tony Reck and Tom Garrett, who have retired from the company. Reck retired as P&L Transportation’s chairman after serving more than 53 years in the railroad industry. He began his career with the Illinois Central Railroad Co. as a brakeman.

After graduating from college, Reck joined Illinois Central’s management team, where he held a variety of positions in the marketing department. In 1986, Reck joined the P&L Railway as VP of marketing and sales. He was elected president and CEO in 1988.

Garrett retired from P&L Transportation as president and CEO. He began his railroad career in 1987 as general counsel of the P&L Railway. Since then, he held management positions with the company and its subsidiaries, including VP and EVP. Garrett was named president of the companies in 2010.

Meanwhile, Tim Wyatt has been appointed VP and COO, and Jennifer Hrdlicka, VP–CFO and chief administrative officer of P&L Transportation and subsidiaries.

The appointments of Greene, Wyatt and Hrdlicka went into effect Jan. 1.

Based in Paducah, Kentucky, P&L Transportation is the holding company for P&L Railway, Evansville Western Railway, and Appalachian and Ohio Railroad, as well as two intermodal terminals.
