NS promotes Gioe to VP

Norfolk Southern Corp. has promoted Joe Gioe to vice president from the position of assistant VP of performance excellence.

Gioe will continue leading the performance excellence group that was established in April, NS officials said in a press release. The group establishes operating processes, measures performance and works with operations leaders and their teams.

"Now with the group fully formed and leveraging Joe’s experience, we’re elevating his position to vice president, where he will have increased influence on enhancing our safety culture and delivering a reliable, resilient service product," said NS Chief Operating Officer Paul Duncan.

Gioe has a 17-year career in the rail industry, which he began as a conductor and locomotive engineer. He joined NS in September 2021 as assistant VP of network optimization; before that, he worked for BNSF Railway Co. in transportation and service design roles.
