Gary Thomas, the former president and executive director of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), has been inducted into the Texas Transportation Hall of Honor.
Established by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, the Hall of Honor recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of transportation in Texas through their dedication, vision and leadership.
Thomas served as DART's executive leader from 2001 to 2021. Under his guidance, DART — which serves the North Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth — flourished as one of the nation's most innovative and efficient public transportation systems, according to a press release issued by HW Lochner, an infrastructure engineering and planning firm where Thomas now serves as transit and rail market director.
In 2022, Thomas was an inductee of the American Public Transportation Association's Hall of Fame.
