Surface Transportation Board Chairman Martin Oberman announced yesterday at the RailTrends® conference in New York City that he would not seek reappointment after his term expires Dec. 31.
Oberman will continue to serve several months into 2024, which is within his one-year holdover period, STB Public Affairs Officer Michael Booth said in an email.
Oberman was sworn in as a member of the STB on Jan. 22, 2019. He served as vice chair starting in 2020 until President Joe Biden appointed him chairman in January 2021. Oberman is serving a five-year term following confirmation by the U.S. Senate in 2019.
A Chicago attorney, Oberman has had an extensive career in the public and private sectors. In addition to his service at the STB, he has been a Chicago alderman and a member of Metra's board. He also has served on the board of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.
