Union Pacific Railroad (UP) retired Chairman, President and CEO Lance Fritz was recognized last week as a new member of the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame.

Fritz, who retired from the railroad last year after 23 years of service, was honored Feb. 1 for his contributions to Nebraska’s economy and business environment. His strategic leadership at the Class I included laying the foundation for intermodal growth, investing in innovative technology and furthering UP’s commitment to sustainability, diversity and inclusion, according to a UP's Inside Track blog.

During his tenure, he led UP through several milestones and challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.  He implemented paid sick leave for all craft professionals and coordinated scheduled work initiatives to make railroad jobs appealing for the future, UP officials said.

Active in the community, Fritz serves on a number of boards of directors, including the Parker Hannifin Corporation, Business Roundtable, The Business Council, Nebraska Medicine, Omaha Zoological Society and the STRATCOM Consultation Committee.

The Nebraska Business Hall of Fame is a collaboration between the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business.
