U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Penn.) this week announced his appointment to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) appointed Deluzio to fill the seat left vacant by the death of U.S. Rep. Donald Payne (D-N.J.), who died in April.
“Membership on this committee provides me more opportunities to fight not only for rail safety, but also for major western Pennsylvania priorities like better passenger rail, stronger and more resilient infrastructure like water and flood management systems, airports, highways, bridges, public transit, locks and dams, and more,” Deluzio said in a press release.
Deluzio is the House lead sponsor of Railway Safety Act legislation, which was introduced after the February 2023 derailment of a Norfolk Southern Railway train carrying hazardous materials as it traveled through East Palestine, Ohio.
