People news from DRPT, Reading & Northern and Houston METRO


Tiffany Robinson will serve as the new director of Virginia's Department of Rail and Public Transportation.

Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has named Tiffany Robinson the department's new director. She has nearly 15 years of experience in state and local government, with a track record of leadership in policy development, public administration and community-focused initiatives, DRPT officials said in a press release. Her most recent role was deputy chief of staff in Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office.

Reading & Northern Railroad has promoted two employees in its passenger department. Jennifer Frederickson, who joined Reading & Northern in 2018 as a mascot at the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, has been promoted to director of passenger marketing, retail and community development. Frederickson creates promotional materials, coordinates advertising campaigns and manages the Black Diamond Company Store. Meg Pursel, who joined the railroad in 2020 as a part-time receptionist, has been promoted to assistant vice president of passenger special projects, office car specials and special excursions. Pursel also oversees maintenance and restoration of new and existing private cars, the passenger fleet, and painting of the locomotives.

Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas, (Houston METRO) has appointed Ban Tien as  chief of the Houston METRO Police Department. Most recently, Tien served as the executive assistant chief of the Houston Police Department. He has experience as a special agent in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and 32 years of experience in the U.S. Army, including three combat tours. His appointment coincides with Houston METRO’s growing security presence, Houston METRO officials said in a press release. Tien succeeds Vera Bumpers, who served as the transit agency's police chief since 2014.
