The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' board yesterday elected Roger Millar and Paul Ajegba as president and vice president, respectively. Both will serve one-year terms.

Millar is secretary of the Washington State Department of Transportation, a role he's held since 2016. Millar also is an experienced land-use and transportation engineer, planner and program manager, AASHTO officials said in a press release.

As president, Millar will focus on resilience, including preparing for and adapting transportation infrastructure to changing climate-related conditions, AASHTO officials said. Millar aims to reduce roadway fatalities, strengthen state DOT asset management programs and improve accessibility across all travel options.

Ajegba is director of the Michigan Department of Transportation, a role he's held since 2019. He is a member of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials and serves on the boards of AASHTO, ITS America, the University of Michigan Civil and Environmental Engineering Friends Association and the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
