The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has elected Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Craig Thompson as its 2023-2024 president.

"During my tenure, I will focus on taking advantage of the opportunities offered through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, working with any and all partners to move the needle on roadway safety, and recruiting and retaining top talent for the transportation workforce," Thompson said in a press release.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers appointed Thompson to serve as WisDOT secretary in January 2019. The department supports all modes of transportation, including rail. Prior to his appointment, Thompson was executive director of the Transportation Development Association. He has more than 25 years of experience working with Wisconsin businesses, communities, legislators and government, according to his bio on WisDOT's website.

AASHTO's board also elected Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto as the association's 2023-2024 vice president. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont nominated Eucalitto and he was confirmed by the state Legislature in January. From January 2020 until January 2023, Eucalitto served as CTDOT's deputy commissioner.
