APTA elects Flora chair for 2012-13

Yesterday, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) named its Executive Committee for the 2012-13 term, which includes Flora Castillo serving as chairwoman.
Castillo, a New Jersey Transit board member, succeeds Dallas Area Rapid Transit President/Executive Director Gary Thomas, who was chairman for the 2011-12 term.
"A key APTA initiative in the next year will be the development of the next generation of public transportation leaders and workers so that we are prepared to meet the growing demand for public transit in the future," Castillo said in a prepared statement.
Other executive committee members for the new term are: vice chair - Peter Varga, chief executive officer of Interurban Transit Partnership; secretary/treasurer - Doran Barnes, executive director of Foothill Transit; and immediate past chair - Thomas.
