Last week, American Public Transportation Association (APTA) members elected Flora Castillo the 2012-13 chairwoman.

A board member for New Jersey Transit Corp., Castillo previously served as APTA's vice chair. The association also elected Peter Varga, chief executive officer of Interurban Transit Partnership, as vice chairman; and Doran Barnes, executive director of Foothill Transit, secretary-treasurer, according to APTA's "Passenger Transport" magazine.

Also elected were four members-at-large to the APTA Executive Committee: Huelon Harrison, principal at Legacy Resource Group; Angela Iannuzziello, vice president of Canada and national transit market sector lead at AECOM; Rosa Navejar, vice chair of Fort Worth Transportation Authority; and Joseph Lhota, chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

In addition, public transit agency representatives elected as members-at-large of APTA's board are Michael Allegra, general manager of the Utah Transit Authority; Kunjan Dayal, director of procurement and contracts at the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon; Rufus Francis, director of safety at the Sacramento Regional Transit District; Lee Gibson, CEO of Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County; Mark Huffer, general manager at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority; Darrell Johnson, deputy CEO of the Orange County Transportation Authority; and Jeanne Krieg, CEO of the Eastern Contra Costa Transportation Authority.

The new board members and officers will assume their duties Sept. 29 at the next APTA board meeting, just before the association’s annual meeting is held in Seattle.
