Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) has promoted Seward Port Manager Christy Terry to director of external affairs, the regional announced Monday.

This summer, Terry will help facilitate a smooth port management transition by supporting operations at ARRC Seward Terminal Reserve as needed, railroad officials said in a press release.

Terry joined ARRC in 2010 as Seward operations manager, and was promoted to port manager in 2015. Prior to that, she spent nearly a decade working for the city of Seward, including as community development director.

As head of the ARRC External Affairs Department, Terry will be in charge of public, community and government relations efforts, as well as employee communications. She will also maintain ARRC’s reputation as a civic supporter and partner in economic development statewide.

Terry's public service includes three terms as an elected official, most recently as the mayor of Seward, where her three-year term will expire this year. She is adept at working with a wide range of people and perspectives, said AARC President and CEO Bill O'Leary.

"That background and those qualities will serve her, and the railroad, well as we face future challenges and embrace future opportunities that call for community partnerships and public participation," he said.
