The Amtrak Police Department honored Dean Stecklair with its Officer of the Year recognition for his “significant effort” in keeping riders, employees and the public safe while on duty.
Stecklair began his law enforcement career in 2010 when he joined the Amtrak Police Department.
In 2018, Stecklair completed 336 incident reports, answered 2,650 calls for service, made 90 criminal arrests, received two lifesaving awards, an achievement award, a customer service award and was named Officer of the Month for May, Amtrak officials said in a press release.
In one instance, Stecklair was one of three officers who worked together to revive an overdose victim. The officers took turns performing CPR and administered four doses of Naloxone, a medication used to block the effects of opioids.
In another case, Stecklair responded to a report of Philadelphia police searching the railroad for a burglary suspect who had stolen 24 firearms from a local gun shop. Eventually, a suspect was apprehended and the firearms recovered.
Local police told Amtrak Stecklair was instrumental in temporarily stopping railroad traffic in the area, helping establish a perimeter to locate the criminal and securing the area to keep local citizens safe.
