The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Cap Metro) and Austin City Council elected Veronica Castro de Barrera chair and Colette Pierce Burnette, vice chair, to the Austin Transit Partnership’s (ATP) board.
Castro de Barrera joined the ATP board in December 2020 as the community representative with expertise in architectural engineering and construction. She is the founding principal of VCdB Architecture & Art and is a licensed architect with a history of creating transit-friendly communities, Cap Metro officials said in a press release.
Burnette is ATP’s board community representative with expertise in community planning and sustainability. She has held several leadership roles at the Washington State Department of Transportation, Pierce College and Central State University.
ATP is an independent organization that oversees the design, construction and implementation of Project Connect, Austin’s regional transit expansion program.
Also, Project Connect officials have begun hosting virtual scoping meetings to inform the public about the proposed Orange and Blue line light-rail projects, as well as the federal environmental review process for those projects.
