Yesterday, the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) board elected Gail Murray and Thomas Blalock to serve one-year terms as board president and vice president, respectively.

Formerly the mayor of Walnut Creek, Murray joined the BART board in 2004. She currently serves as president of Gail Murray Consulting, which specializes in public transit policy and planning. She’s also a research associate with the Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University.

Blalock joined the BART board in 1994, and had stints as board VP and president in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Prior to his 1995 retirement, he served in various planning, engineering and administrative positions with the cities of Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Fremont.
