BNSF Railway Co. recently named Charles Shewmake associate general counsel, effective Feb. 1, 2007. He will report to Vice President and General Counsel Paul Hoferer. BNSF also appointed Andrew Johnson assistant VP of state government affairs to succeed Shewmake.

Since joining BNSF in 1988 as a law department intern, Shewmake has held various litigation and law transaction positions.

Most recently director of government affairs for the Pacific Northwest, Johnson joined BNSF last year. He previously served as executive policy advisor to Washington Gov. Gary Locke and policy analyst and project manager for the U. S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe National Transportation Systems Center.
