The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon recently named Stephen Banta executive director of operations. He will be responsible for the agency’s operations division, system safety and security, accessible transportation, labor relations, and planning and development.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the public transit industry, Banta most recently served as chief operations officer for the Port Authority of Allegheny County, where he oversaw operations and maintenance of the light-rail and bus systems.
Banta began his public transportation career in 1986, repairing rail cars for San Diego Trolley. In 1989, he accepted an operations management position with the agency. Banta previously held various positions with transit agencies in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Dallas.
