The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) has named Michael Bourque president and chief executive officer.

He most recently was vice president of external relations for the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada. Bourque previously was director of federal public affairs for Bayer Inc. and served as an executive in federal public service for the Department of Communications and the Privy Council Office.

“Michael brings extensive experience in policy development and advocacy, with established relationships with government and other organizations, “ said RAC Chairman Claude Mongeau, CN’s president and CEO, in a prepared statement. “He has a strong drive to meet the rail sector’s innovation priorities and human resources challenges.”

Bruce Burrows had been serving as RAC’s interim president and CEO since former top exec Cliff Mackay died on Jan. 26. Burrows will resume his duties as VP of public and corporate affairs.

RAC represents the interests of 50 freight and passenger railroads in Canada.
