Alvin Brown and J. Todd Inman have been sworn in as members of the National Transportation Safety Board, filling two vacancies and bringing the nonpartisan board to full strength, the board announced yesterday.
President Joe Biden nominated the two, who were confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Brown’s term as a board member runs through 2026; Inman’s term runs through 2027. While board member terms are five years, each are filling existing slots.
Brown comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he served as senior adviser for community infrastructure opportunities. From 2011 to 2015, he was mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. Earlier, he served as executive director of the White House Community Empowerment Board and was a senior adviser to former Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.
Inman had served APCO Worldwide since July 2022 as senior director of the office of the executive chairman. Before that, he was secretary of the Florida Department of Management Services. He was also a senior adviser and chief of staff to former U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. Earlier in his career, Inman was an independent contractor agent for State Farm Insurance Cos. and was an instructor for the National Fire Academy regional delivery program of arson detection for first responders.
