On Aug. 22, Michael Burns took the reins as Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s new general manager.
He will be responsible for VTA’s $340 million operating budget and 2,300 employees; light-rail and bus operations; and a $4 billion Measure A transit improvement program, which includes a Bay Area Rapid Transit extension to Santa Clara County, Caltrain improvements and light-rail extensions.
Burns most recently served as executive director of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority. Prior to joining Muni in 1999, he held management positions at Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation and Massachusetts Bay Transportation authorities.
