The Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors (CAGTC) this week endorsed the U.S. Senate's confirmation of Gina Raimondo as the 40th U.S. secretary of commerce.
“CAGTC is pleased the Senate has overwhelmingly approved Secretary Gina Raimondo to run the U.S. Department of Commerce," said CAGTC President Leslie Blakey in a press release.
As one of the Biden-Harris administration’s chief advisers on global supply chains, Raimondo’s executive experience will be critical in helping the White House oversee the 100-day review of U.S. supply chains and the systemic risks posed to high-priority industries from potential over-reliance on foreign suppliers, she said. Minimizing future impacts on businesses and consumers from supply chain problems experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be a priority for the commerce department, Blakey believes.
Raimondo was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris on March 3 after being confirmed by a 84-15 vote in the Senate. Most recently, Raimondo served as the 75th governor of Rhode Island and its first female governor.
