Rail News: Railroading People
Michael Ward can take off at least one of his many hats. On March 15, CSX Transportation named Tony Ingram executive vice president and chief operating officer. Ward — who serves as CSX Corp. chairman, president and chief executive officer, and CSXT president — had been acting as COO since EVP and COO Al Crown retired in September 2003.
Ingram, who will report to Ward, most recently served Norfolk Southern Corp. as senior vice president-transportation network and mechanical. He will be responsible for all rail operations, including transportation, safety, engineering and mechanical, and service design.
A 33-year railroading veteran, Ingram joined NS predecessor Southern Railway as a management trainee, and later served in engineering, labor relations and train operations positions. In December, he was promoted from vice president of transportation operations to SVP.
"Tony will bring an intense focus to our operations, which are neither as effective nor efficient as they need to be," said Ward in a prepared statement. "For example, in the first quarter, our expense levels remain too high and are largely offsetting revenue gains."
