CSXT's Cantrell to retire in September; three execs to split his duties

Yesterday, CSX Transportation announced Senior Vice President of Engineering and Mechanical W. Michael Cantrell will retire Sept. 1.
In 1996, Cantrell joined CSXT as VP-mechanical. He later helmed the engineering department and advanced operations technologies groups. Cantrell previously served Cummins Engine Co. for 22 years in various capacities.
"In his eight years with CSX Transportation, [Cantrell] has played a key role in developing improved labor-management relationships and implementing advanced technology, such as the auxiliary power units and wireless communication technology," said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tony Ingram in a prepared statement.
Instead of re-filling Cantrell's position, CSXT will rely on three officers to split his responsibilities. The Class I promoted Chief Mechanical Officer-Locomotives Richard Regan to VP-Mechanical; named former Norfolk Southern Railway executive James Bagley VP-Engineering; and announced Richard Kadlick will continue to serve as VP-engineering and mechanical quality and standards. All three will report to Ingram.
In 1974, Regan joined Conrail, where he held a number of mechanical department positions. In 1999, he served CSXT as general manager-car operations.
After ending his 31-year NS career in 2000, Bagley served as an
independent consultant specializing in railroad engineering. Kadlick joined CSXT in 1994 after serving the U.S. Navy for more than 25 years.
