Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) President Dorval Carter Jr. announced this week he will resign as the agency's president on Jan. 31 to become president and CEO of Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago.

Carter has been president of CTA for the past 10 years and has 40 years of experience in public transportation. He joined the CTA in 1984 as a staff attorney and worked for the agency for 26 years. His career also included nearly 15 years at the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration.

No information about who will assume his role was given in a CTA press release.

As CTA president, Carter has overseen more than $11 billion in projects that were completed, begun or announced. They include some of the largest capital projects in CTA history, including the $5.7 billion Red Line Extension and the $2.1 billion first phase of the Red Purple Modernization program.

Carter has served on the St. Anthony Hospital's board for more than a decade.
