Alfred Benesch & Co. recently promoted Chief Financial Officer Robert Carter to chairman to succeed Harold Sandberg, who will serve as chairman emeritus after chairing the consulting engineer's board for the past 21 years.

Since joining Alfred Benesch in 1970 as a civil engineer, Carter has served in various capacities, including CFO for the past 14 years. He will continue to serve as CFO.

In 1947, Sandberg began his Alfred Benesch career as the company's first employee. With more than 57 years' engineering experience, he served as the principal designer on several major Mississippi River bridges.

Alfred Benesch offers bridge inspection and rating services, and bridge, yard, siding and industrial spur design services. The firm — which serves Class Is and short lines — also provides construction management and surveying services, and conducts high-speed rail studies.
