Union Pacific Railroad recently appointed Rich Castagna and John Rourke superintendent of transportation services for the Pocatello and Council Bluffs service units, respectively.
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of 35 trains moving across a more than 800-mile network in southern Idaho, northern Utah and southwestern Wyoming, Castagna most recently served as director of transportation services in UP’s Kansas City, Mo., office. Since beginning his railroading career in 1993 as a switchman with the Chicago & North Western Railroad (which merged with UP in 1995), Castagna has held a number of operating department positions in Chicago, North Little Rock, Ark., and East St. Louis, Ill.
Succeeding Mike Ring, who retired after 32 years with UP,
Rourke is responsible for the day-to-day operation of 80 trains moving across a more than 500-mile network in central Iowa and eastern Nebraska. Rourke most recently served as superintendent of coal operations in South Merrill, Neb. Since joining the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1979, he has held various operating department positions, including engineer, train dispatcher and director of transportation services.
