The Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad (CSS) recently named Bruce Kehe chief mechanical officer, effective May 14.

After a transition period, he will assume management of the mechanical department and succeed longtime Chief Mechanical Officer Gary Lied, who plans to retire soon, CSS officials said in a prepared statement. Kehe has 33 years of mechanical experience, including supervisory positions with CN, the Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railway Co. and Gary Railway.

CSS also recently appointed Mike Shore superintendent. He will supervise all aspects of the transportation department, with a particular emphasis on service reliability and safety, CSS officials said.

Shore most recently was general manager of Chicago Rail Link. He has more than 17 years of rail industry experience, including management positions with the Burlington Northern Railroad, BNSF Railway Co. and Belt Railway Co. of Chicago.

CSS operates on 182 system miles of track between Chicago and South Bend and Kingsbury, Ind. The short line serves the Port of Chicago.
