A non-railroader when he joined Union Pacific Railroad in 1998, Ike Evans now is leaving the railroad industry. Yesterday, Evans announced plans to retire as UP's vice chairman Feb. 28.
Evans, 62, initially served UP as president and chief operating officer. He was named vice chairman in February 2004, when James Young was appointed president, and Evans and Young joined Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Davidson as members of a newly created Office of the Chairman.
Prior to joining UP, Evans served Emerson Electric as senior vice president. He previously served General Motors Corp. in various management capacities.
During Evans' tenure at UP, annual revenue increased from $9 billion to more than $12 billion. He also helped develop several service products, including Blue Streak and Express Lane.
