Percy Fields III has been named president and general manager of The Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC). He succeeds Mike Grace, who is now executive adviser until he retires in May 2023.
Fields has more than 22 years of railroad experience, most recently as GM of BRC. He began his career as a conductor at Union Pacific Railroad more than 20 years ago.
He served for three years as UP's director of transportation services and another year as the Northern Region’s superintendent of dispatching. His most recent position prior to coming to BRC in 2020 was GM of the Alton and Southern Railway.
"I am excited and challenged to take this position as the leader of Belt Railway and I am confident we can continue to move rail-freight traffic through Chicago in a safe and efficient manner," Fields said in a press release.
BRC is the largest intermediate switching terminal in the nation.
Grace has served as BRC president since 2018. When he retires next year, he will have completed a 43-year career in railroading.
"I am confident that Percy will capably lead Belt Railway into the future as Chicago continues to evolve as the dominant and largest railroad hub in the country," Grace said.
