Former CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau has been elected to serve on Norfolk Southern Corp.’s board, NS Chairman, President and CEO James Squires announced yesterday.Mongeau was CN’s top executive from 2010 to 2016. On the NS board, he will be an independent director and serve on the compensation and finance committee and the risk management committee. As CN’s CEO, Mongeau successfully executed a customer-centric version of precision scheduled railroading (PSR). Under his leadership, CN strengthened operating efficiencies while improving service through engagement, communication and collaboration with the Class I’s customers, NS officials said in a press release.During his 22-year career at CN, Mongeau also served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, VP of strategic and financial planning and assistant VP of corporate development.“Claude’s deep knowledge and understanding of precision scheduled railroading will be invaluable as we continue to implement our PSR-based strategic plan to drive efficiencies, service, growth and shareholder value,” said Squires. “Claude brings hands-on experience in aligning PSR with a customer focus that promotes end-to-end supply chain performance and growth.”In November 2016, Progressive Railroading presented Mongeau with the Railroad Innovator Award for his efforts to bolster CN’s supply-chain relationship.Prior to joining CN, Mongeau was a partner with Groupe Secor, a Montreal management consulting firm. He began his career in Paris as a consultant for Bain & Co.
