The boards of the Port Authority of Allegheny County, San Mateo County Transit District, Caltrain and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently elected new members.

Amanda Green Hawkins joined the port authority’s board. Hawkins is an Allegheny County councilwoman and assistant general counsel for the United Steelworkers. She will serve as the county’s official presence on the board until Dec. 31, 2015.

In California, Redwood City Councilman Jeff Gee was sworn in as the newest member of the San Mateo Transit District board, while Burlingame Vice Mayor Jerry Deal became the newest member of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers board, which oversees Caltrain. Gee and Deal both succeed the late Omar Ahmad, who served on both boards.

In the District of Columbia, Muriel Bowser and Thomas Bulger joined WMATA’s board. Bowser succeeds Tommy Wells as a principal director; Bulger succeeds Michael Brown as an alternate director.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) General Counsel Kevin Allmand announced plans to retire Dec. 11 after serving 18 years with the organization.

During his tenure, Allmand oversaw property acquisition and legal issues associated with the Tasman West, Tasman East, Capitol and Vasona light-rail projects. He also negotiated the purchase of the WP Milpitas railroad right of way and the Newhall Yard property from Union Pacific Railroad, which were key components of the Bay Area Rapid Transit Silicon Valley project, VTA officials said in a prepared statement.
