U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has announced the appointment of eight new and one returning member to the Transit Advisory Committee for Safety (TRACS).The committee was chartered in 2009 to provide a forum for public transit safety information. Members are nominated based on their knowledge of rail and bus transit and evaluated on leadership and organizational skills, geographic representation, staff diversity and the overall balance of industry representation, according to a Federal Transit Administration press release.Appointments are for two-year terms. The new TRACS members are:• Herman Bernal, state safety oversight manager, Arizona Department of Transportation;• Toby Fauver, deputy secretary for multimodal transportation, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation;• David Goeres, chief safety and security officer, Utah Transit Authority;• David Hahn, senior program specialist, safety and security, American Public Transportation Association; • Jeanne Krieg, chief executive officer, Eastern Contra Costa Transit;• Jeff Lau, chief safety officer, Bay Area Rapid Transit;• Eric Muntan, chief, Office Safety and Security, Miami-Dade Transit; and• John Samuelsen, president, Transport Workers Union of America of Greater New York, Local 100. Alvin Pearson, assistant general manager of the Memphis Area Transit Authority, is the returning member.
