GE promotes two execs to rail-related positions

Yesterday, General Electric Co. named Anders Solem vice president of China operations for GE Transportation and Steven Thorne, senior VP of human resources for GE Equipment Services.

Solem will be responsible for GE Transportation's business activities in China's rail, aviation and inspection technology markets. He most recently served the GE unit as general manager of turbofan and turbojets, military systems. Since joining GE Transportation in 1993, Solem has served in various global marketing and sales positions.

Thorne had assumed the role of SVP, human resources in September 2002. He previously served GE as manager, global employer of choice, and GE Transportation, Aircraft Engines in various human resources positions.

GE Transportation produces locomotives; GE Equipment Services' Rail Services leasing division manages a fleet of more than 180,000 rail cars, and 150,000 containers and trailers.
