Yesterday, Genesee & Wyoming Inc. named James Andres chief accounting officer and global controller to succeed Alan Harris, who plans to retire after serving the short-line holding company for 13 years. Andres will report to Chief Financial Officer John Hellmann.

With 24 years' accounting experience, Andres previously served KPMG and Federal-Mogul Corp. in various capacities, and served as controller for New Venture Gear, a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler and General Motors Corp.

"Andres brings outstanding experience in both domestic and international accounting environments," said Hellmann in a prepared statement.
