The Global Ukraine Rail Task Force and its financial donors traveled to Kyiv this week to present a $110,000 check to the Trade Union of Ukraine Railroaders to buy food for railroad employees working on the front line of the war.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Ukrainian Railways (UZ) workers have continued to transport people and freight in Ukraine under extreme and dangerous conditions. Hundreds of employees have been killed and hundreds more injured in the process.

The task force representatives traveled to Ukraine at the invitation of UZ officials. The money will be used to buy 6,000 food packages for distribution to railroaders and their families.

About 30,000 railroaders and their families are located in the war zone. UZ workers on the front line often have limited access to food, supplies and secure shelters, task force representatives said in a press release.
