HNTB Corp. recently appointed two transportation industry veterans to serve in executive capacities.

The company named Peter Gertler vice president. He’ll serve in HNTB’s Oakland, Calif., office as the company’s national public transit market leader.

Gertler has more than 20 years’ experience in public transportation and program management in the United States and worldwide. Since joining HNTB in 2004, Gertler has worked -- either as a project manager, technical lead or as pursuit champion -- on a variety of projects, including the Dumbarton Rail Corridor Study in San Mateo, Calif., the Airport Transit Corridor Re-Evaluation in Salt Lake City, and the University Link Light Rail Transit Final Design in Seattle. Currently, he is HNTB's project manager for the engineering and environmental phase of the Los Angeles-to-San Diego section of the California High-Speed Rail Program.

In addition, HNTB appointed Christopher Aadnesen vice president and the firm's national freight rail market leader. He’s based in HNTB’s office in Austin, Texas.

Aadnesen has more than 30 years of freight-rail experience. He began his career with the Union Pacific Railroad, where he served in various management positions for 25 years. He also headed up his own logistics and railway planning firm for 10 years, while also serving in senior leadership positions with freight railroad operations in Eastern Europe and with Mexico’s TFM S.A. de C.V. Aadnesen also served on the board of directors for Houston's Port Terminal Railroad Association, the Operating and Safety Committee of the Association of American Railroads, and the Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Companies.
