Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) President and Chief Executive Officer Phillip Shucet plans to leave his post after his contract expires Jan. 31, according to newspaper reports posted on the agency’s website.
The agency also posted an advertisement and job description for a new president and CEO on its website.
HRT is seeking a strong business leader with “good fiscal and organizational management skills” who will provide “visionary leadership for HRT and the region in the development and operation of public transportation,” according to site postings.
Shucet, the former commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation, was hired in January 2009 to succeed former CEO Michael Townes, who stepped down after HRT’s light-rail project exceeded its budget and alleged mismanagement prompted a federal investigation that’s still ongoing, according to a Norfolk Daily Press article posted on HRT’s website.
Shucet oversaw the light-rail construction project’s completion. The 7.4-mile rail line opened Aug. 19.
