On Aug. 4, Deborah Hersman was sworn in for a second two-year term as chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Her term will end on Aug. 3, 2013.

Chairwoman since July 2009, Hersman was nominated for a second term by President Barack Obama on June 28 and confirmed by the Senate on Aug. 2.

“It has been a privilege to lead this remarkable organization with its dedicated and professional employees. I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow board members and the staff to make transportation safer for our citizens,” said Hersman in a prepared statement.

She concurrently is serving a second five-year term as a board member, which will expire Dec. 31, 2013. Prior to joining the NTSB, Hersman was a senior professional staff member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and served as staff director and senior legislative aide to former U.S. Rep. Bob Wise (D-W.Va.).
