The Aberdeen & Rockfish Railroad Co. recently appointed Garland Horton president to succeed Edward Lewis, who will retire after serving as the 47-mile short line’s president the past 20 years. Lewis will continue to serve as chairman until he retires at year’s end.

Horton most recently served as southern region vice president-sales and marketing for Genesee & Wyoming Inc. He previously held a similar position — VP of sales and marketing — at Rail Management Corp.

The Aberdeen & Rockfish operates lines in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, and interchanges with CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway. The short line currently is marketing the largest certified rail-served industrial site in North Carolina, according to the railroad.
