Norfolk Southern Corp.'s board recently elected George Johnson Jr. as a director.
Johnson serves as chief executive officer of Extended Stay America Inc., a 461-unit hotel chain he co-founded in 1995. He also serves as managing general partner of American Storage and director of Advance America, and owns real-estate development firm Johnson Development Assoc.
Johnson previously served as president of Blockbuster Entertainment Corp.'s consumer products division, managing general partner of WJB Video, director of Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and president of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
He also served three terms in South Carolina's House of Representatives.
