In memoriam: Pioneer Railcorp founder Guy Brenkman

Guy Brenkman, who founded short-line holding company Pioneer Railcorp, died Sept. 25 in Las Vegas. He was 66.

Brenkman formed Pioneer Railroad Co. in January 1986. The company began operating the West Jersey Railroad, its first short line, in 1988.

Brenkman served as Pioneer Railcorp's chairman, president and chief executive officer, and retired in 2006. Today, the company owns 18 short lines operating in 13 states, and provides switching and rail-car storage, repair, cleaning and leasing services.
