The Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) today announced it promoted Mike Engel to the newly created position of senior vice president and chief financial officer. He will continue to be responsible for all accounting management and financial functions, as well as corporate administration and government relations, and continue to serve as corporate secretary.

Engel, who has served INRD for 22 years, most recently was VP and chief accounting officer.

The railroad also promoted Bob Babcock to the newly created position of SVP of operations and business development, and named Eric Powell manager of intermodal and economic development.

Babcock, who's led INRD's operations since March 2006, will oversee all non-energy related marketing development, and direct economic development and operations. He has a total of 24 years of railroading experience, including stints with the Santa Fe Railway and CSX Transportation.

Powell will transition from the railroad’s government affairs department to the marketing department. He joined INRD in January 2011 after spending 13 years in public relations with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“These changes are being made to both strengthen and streamline our management structure as we prepare for future growth,” said INRD President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Hoback in a prepared statement.

Meanwhile, Watco Cos. L.L.C. has named Mike Stickel vice president of marketing. He will be based out of Indiana and primarily will serve the needs of U.S. Steel and be responsible for growing business with the shipper.

Stickel most recently was VP of locomotive leasing for CIT Rail. He previously served Helm Financial as VP of marketing and Indiana Rail Road Co. as director of economic analysis and strategy.
