The Jacksonville Port Authority's (JAXPORT) board yesterday chose Eric Green as chief executive officer.

A longtime JAXPORT executive, Green was appointed interim CEO in March. He joined the port in 2005 and previously served as senior director of government and external affairs.

Green led the effort to gain authorization and funding to start a deepening project at Jacksonville Harbor, JAXPORT officials said in a press release. That project, which calls for deepening the federal shipping channel to 47 feet, is slated to begin in the next few months.

"Eric Green has demonstrated in his period of service to JAXPORT, and his period as interim CEO, that he will be a great asset to this port as CEO," said JAXPORT board member Joe York.

Before joining JAXPORT, Green held several leadership roles for the city of Jacksonville, Florida, including deputy chief administrative officer.
