Kansas City Southern recently named James Byrd assistant vice president-taxes. During the past nine years, he has served engineering firm Black & Veatch as director of international taxes.

A certified public accountant, Byrd previously served in various accounting and management positions at Seidman and Seidman, Fluor Corp. and H.B. Zachry Co.

"With 29 years of experience in the management of tax departments, planning of complex international transactions, and handling relations with foreign and domestic tax authorities, Jim's experience will be important to KCS as we expand and integrate our Mexican and U.S. operations," said KCS Vice President and Treasurer Paul Weyandt in a prepared statement.
